Dear Friend,
Can I tell you a shocking secret?
No one knows more about
positioning yourself for charging more than me. Why? Because 15 years
ago I started out with no real education beyond a high-school diploma,
unable to speak English, with only $194 in my pocket, and a small suitcase
packed with clothes and a big dream!

know about me:
I started out scrubbing
floors in a little
Jewish bakery in Brooklyn, New York.
Two years later I
was making $50,000 a year managing a small restaurant. Six years later I

than many of my peers.

move ahead faster than others is because I didn't wait for permission!

Now read it once again! DO NOT take this sentence lightly.
From the very early age we
are conditioned by parents, teachers, and later the bosses at work, that we
need permission to do things.
* what we can or cannot eat
or wear
* where we can or cannot go
* when we can or cannot take lunch breaks or go to the bathroom
* how much money we can make and when we can get a raise!
That's why you started your
own business, to do things your own way, right? But you keep playing
by the old rules, and the price you are paying for it is HUGE!
You are in your own
business and you
make the rules by which you play!
You know what's really
killing me? When I see people with years of great education, life and work
experience that makes me green with envy... and yet they are giving away their
hard-earned know-how and expertise for peanuts.
Oh, they always have a good
reason to do so:
* they don't have the right
certification
* they are just getting started
* what they do is so 'common sense'
* they love what they do and would do it for free
* they need to go back for more training
Listen, I'm not advocating
rebelling against training and certification programs. All I'm telling you,
is that in business you don't wait for permission from anyone else! You
state what you want to do and you work your tail off to make that a reality!
Frankly, I think there are
only two things that dictate how much money you are making in your business:
1.
Your ability to convince prospects to pay your fees. Let's face it -
there are more and more people starting a business just like yours every day
and many of them are willing to work for peanuts!
So your potential clients compare you to competitors and make-up their
mind what your service is worth to them. If you are unprepared to pre-empty
their pre-conceived opinions what your service should cost, they will grind
you down to give up the last penny of your profits.
2.
What you believe you can make! Don't discount this one - what's going
on in your head can appear every bit as real as the objections raised by
prospects. When you are selling a service, you are really selling you. And
if you own sense of self-worth isn't too good - guess what? Your bank
account will reflect that too!
To paraphrase the words of
Henry Ford - if you think you can make more, you are right, if you think you
can't - you are right too!
